About Brian S. McCarthy Middle School

Brian McCarthy was a long time Nashua, NH public servant. He served for 25 years on the Board of Aldermen from 1994 until his passing in 2018 including five terms as Board President. His love, insight, and unwavering commitment to the City made him a pillar of knowledge for his community. He was a champion for Nashua, advocating for land conservation, the arts, community development, and education. During his tenure as an Alderman, he was most revered for his leadership on the Joint Special School Building Committee and dedication to the construction and renovation of the North and South Nashua High Schools. Brian was devoted to equitable education. His commitment for public education went well beyond the classroom as an advocate for lifelong learning and a passion for Science and Mathematics. Fittingly, Brian was instrumental in the purchase of the land on which this school sits today. This site connects to the Southwest Conservation land, which Brian helped establish, and is located in the neighborhood in which he resided.

Dedicating this school in Brian's name is a testament to the magnitude of his contribution and impact on the City of Nashua, reflecting the kind of person our city's students can aspire to be. Thank you, Brian, for always encouraging and supporting those around you, for being a public servant that went above and beyond for his community, and being an example of what it means to be a community leader. For his work as an Alderman, his core values of continuing education and lifelong learning, and for his unwavering dedication to Public Education in Nashua, this school is named in honor of Brian Scott McCarthy.
